Opportunities for Sacred Service

Team Descriptions

• Usher Team: Provide warm-hearted guidance to fellow congregants in support of our goal for a sacred and organized worship experience. Serve 1–2 Sundays a month at either service.
• Greeter Team: Greet the Divine in everyone as you give and receive handshakes or hugs, and smiles at the front door. Serve 1–2 Sundays a month.
• Connection Hour Host: Help create warm hospitality for socializing after Sunday service. Easy fellowship area set-up or finishing make this coffee hour possible for us all. Choose what you would like to do! Serve 1–2 Sundays a month.
• Potluck Coordinators: Three times a year our spiritual family gathers for a festive potluck. Join this team to lovingly coordinate and serve a buffet-style meal.
• Garden Team: Help keep our gardens beautiful. Meets the 2nd Saturday of the month at 9 a.m. to perform seasonal tasks. Friendly on the job training provided as needed.
• Welcome Team: Open, warm, smiling people needed to help newcomers feel welcome and comfortable. Serve at the information table or move throughout the church to connect with our new friends. Serve 1–2 Sundays a month at either service.
• Chaplains: Pray with individuals requesting your spiritual presence. Interview and extensive training required.
• Prayer Team: Join our sacred circle to pray daily with prayer requests. Interview required.
• Office Support: Contribute a few hours each week to keep our office humming along. From phone to files there is fun to be done!
• Library Steward: Help organize and maintain our lending library, which is located on the stage downstairs. Serve 2 hours monthly at your convenience.
• Green Team: Integrate our “Green Church Manual” as we continue to create an Earth friendly community. Serve 2 hours a month.
• Youth and Family Ministry*: *Six months of regular attendance at Unity of Portland a prerequisite.

Guide young hearts and minds in Unity Principals and be ready for a fascinating experience! Choose from a variety of opportunities including implementing Unity curriculum, facilitating a craft project, assisting teachers, holding babies, and more. Serve 1–2 Sundays a month.
• Bookstore Team: A variety of opportunities are available on this dynamic team. Provide customer service and ring up sales during a Sunday shift. Or work behind the scenes maintaining inventory, building displays, and helping with marketing tasks. Serve 1–3 Sundays a month.
• Special Events: Share your high-energy gifts for special events or one-time service projects. Assist with design, marketing or implementing an event. Choose one or more events a year.
• Building Maintenance Team: Use your handyperson skills to take loving care of our spiritual home. Help manage special projects or choose a maintenance task. Meets monthly to discuss projects and assign tasks.
• Community Outreach: We have many opportunities to serve the greater Portland community in love. Work with like-minded people to be a light in the world.
• InReach Team: Join our Hands of Love team to provide a nourishing meal to a person in our spiritual community during times of transition.
• International Outreach: Building Bridges supports over 60 Unity Churches and ministerial students in Africa with books and educational materials. Join us in our opportunity to serve globally.
