Unity Thoughts on Prosperity and the Economy

Eric Butterworth and Charles Fillmore

There is just no way around it: your fortune (good or bad) begins with you. Financial crises, even recessions or depressions, so far as they affect your pocketbook or bank account or job stability, begin with your reactions of faith or fear. You do not cause economic conditions, though we all share in the cumulative consciousness that is the cause; but if you give them reality by your negative thoughts or conversations about them, you become synchronized with an energy flow which has as swift an influence on your life as the light that bathes the room when you throw the switch. (Eric Butterworth)

Your personal welfare begins with your consciousness. It is not what happens on Wall Street. It is not the "state of the economy." It has its inception in the state of your mind. You can be prosperous when business is poor, and you can experience financial difficulties even when business is booming. (Eric Butterworth)

The whole of God-substance is present in its entirety at every point in space at the same time. Not just some of it, but all the substance in the universe is present at any point of human need. (Eric Butterworth)

Peaceful and secure is the person whose real treasure is always the affluence of God-substance. He or she always feels rich no matter how the market fluctuates or what the balance sheet shows. And the great thing is that this feeling will prompt him or her always to make right and wise decisions in the management of his or her affairs. The mind flourishes with creative ideas, the hands tingle with ingenuity, opportunities unfold, and blessings abound -- all because of the feeling of abundance that came first. (Eric Butterworth)

If you speak words of Truth over and over, you impress them on the subconscious mind and thus they become true for you. They do not become true because you affirm them. You affirm them because they are true. You are synchronizing your consciousness with the reality of Truth, creating a channel through which the mystical flow may do its powerful work through you. (Eric Butterworth)

I am a richly endowed expression of an opulent Universe. There is always a sufficiency to do the things I want and need to do. (Eric Butterworth)

The goal should not be to make money or acquire things, but to achieve the consciousness through which the substance will flow forth when and as you need it. (Eric Butterworth)

Make a deeply rooted commitment that you will practice the Presence of God-substance, ever reminding yourself that you are in the Presence of an infinite, eternal substance from which all things proceed. Resolve that you will live and think and work as if you really believed that the whole Universe of creativity and substance were present in every project of your work and every transaction of your investments as your never-failing resource. Practice the presence of God-substance with diligence and persistence, and you will begin to realize prosperity. (Eric Butterworth)

In the minds of many students, it is a matter of making divine law work. You can't make law work. Law is an inexorable process. You are always in the working milieu of law, as, for example, you are always under the influence of gravity. One might be foolish to say, "I'm going to make a demonstration of gravity." The fact is gravity is a constant. You may stray from the awareness of the process and do some unwise thing that will revert to you as a problem. If so, the need is simply to stop doing it and once again become synchronized with gravity's supportive vibration. So it is with a demonstration of divine law. It is not something you do to God or even something that God does especially for you. It is simply a change of your consciousness in which you become synchronized with the ceaseless activity of divine love, of healing life, or of prospering substance. (Eric Butterworth)

Your true image is not something to get; it is a reality to discover. There is that of you that is the likeness of God. (Eric Butterworth)

God is not a superperson "out there" to whom we pray and from whom we beg favors. God is a life process by which we live. Emerson suggests that when you break with the God of tradition and cease from the God of the intellect that God will fire you with the Presence. There is no way that you can really begin to understand "spiritual economics" or to make it work in your life until you are free from the sense of God "up there" and on fire with the awareness of the Presence. God is not the Grand Man of the heavens, a great purser of accounts and disburser of divine substance. God is the transcendent whole of things of which you are an individualized part. (Eric Butterworth)

The universal principle is "before they call I will answer" (Is. 65:24). In the great unity of all life, when you have a need, the answer is already moving on its way toward you. Before you formulate a desire in mind, it is God in you desiring. Before you have an urge to do something or embark upon a project, there is a moving of Spirit in you, prompting you in that direction.... as Goethe says, "Desire is the presentiment of our inner abilities, and the forerunner of our ultimate accomplishments." (Eric Butterworth)

Pour your living words of faith into the omnipresent substance, and you will be prospered though all the banks in the world close their doors. Tur the great energy of your thinking toward "plenty" ideas, and you will have plenty regardless of what men about you are saying or doing. (Charles Fillmore)

God is not confined to that form of substance which we term matter. God is the intangible essence of that which man has formed into and named matter. Matter is a mental limitation of that divine substance whose vital and inherent character is manifest in all life expression. (Charles Fillmore)

If your money supply is low or your purse seems empty, take it in your hands and bless it. See it filled with the living substance ready to become manifest. As you prepare your meals bless the food with the thought of spiritual substance. When you dress, bless your garments and realize that you are being constantly clothed with God's substance. (Charles Fillmore)

Faith is that consciousness in us of the invisible substance and of the attributes of mind by which we lay hold of it. (Charles Fillmore)

When there is world-wide belief in financial depression, lack of circulation, stagnation, things do not go as we expect and we develop fear, a belief in lack of circulation of money. But if we know the law, we do not come under this fear thought. At any time many persons make money; they use this law and take advantage of opportunity. We should bless everything we have, for we can increase and multiply what we have by speaking words. (Charles Fillmore)

Let us all know that just now we are in the very presence of creative Mind, the Mind that made the universe and everything in it. This Mind is here and at work righ now as much as it ever was or ever will be. When we fully realize this, we increase the activity of Mind in us immeasurably. You must realize that God is Spirit and that Spirit is very real and powerful, and by far the most substantial thing in all the world. (Charles Fillmore)

There is no lack of anything anywhere in reality. The only lack is the fear of lack in the mind of man. We do not need to overcome any lack, bu we must overcome the fear of lack. (Charles Fillmore)
