Our Co-Ministers

Rev. Billie Blain

Billie BlainReverend Billie Blain has served the Unity movement since 1980 as an ordained Unity minister. She has successfully served churches in Auburn, CA, Sacramento, CA, and Dayton, OH before moving to Portland in 2006, where she now co-ministers Unity of Portland with her daughter, Rev. Lisa Davis.

She has led these churches with wisdom, joy and enthusiasm, teaching, in a profound way, the spiritual principles upon which Unity is based. Thousands of people have been touched by her message of love and optimism.

Reverend Billie’s wide array of spiritual knowledge comes from her unending search for wisdom from diverse sources. She reads the latest materials from Quantum physics, Unity, psychology, and wisdom literature of all religions. But her faith made a huge shift in 1969 when she read and studied the works of Teilhard De Chardin, a Jesuit Priest/scientist/philosopher, who sparked off a revolution in thinking when he wrote The Phenomenon of Man. His writings were published after his death, as he had been silenced and exiled by the Catholic Church. Nevertheless he rocked the world with his message that the very essence of everything is energy, and that energy is nothing less than LOVE, and that it is evolving through the consciousness of humans. We all make the choice to allow the energy of love to transform our lives, or not to consciously connect.

She uses all useful ideas to create a better life, and her interests are reading, walking, movies that contain a transformation of consciousness in them, family life, and connecting with people in a meaningful way.

Her mission is to empower people so they express their life’s purpose. She actively participates in the transformation of planet earth through love, one heart at a time.

Rev. Lisa Davis

Rev. Lisa DavisRev. Lisa Davis joined Unity Church of Portland as part of the Senior Ministry Team in early 2007. A dynamic, second-generation Unity minister, Lisa currently serves this ministry with her mother, Rev. Billie Blain. They are the only mother-daughter ministry team serving together in the Unity movement. Since their installation in 2007, Rev. Lisa and Rev. Billie have begun many new programs to revitalize and serve the Unity Church of Portland and its spiritual community, including organizing leadership and ministry teams.

Lisa was born and raised in Unity; and at the age of 18, she was elected a Regional Officer for the International Youth of Unity (YOU). Lisa then became a Licensed Unity Teacher, teaching classes and workshops around the country. Prior to becoming a minister, she was employed by the Association of Unity Churches as a Teen Teacher Trainer. Earlier she worked in the chiropractic profession as a clinic manager and practice-building consultant for a large, multi-doctor clinic.

Lisa was ordained a Unity Minister in 1998 and received an honors scholarship for her ministerial consciousness from Unity School for Religious Studies. She holds a BA in Religious Studies from Ottawa University.

After ordination, Lisa became the Senior Minister for Unity Church of Dayton, where she inspired the creation of a large, dynamic spiritual community that blessed hundreds of people.

It was at this time that another passion arose in ministry. Lisa started the Building Bridges International Outreach Ministry, which works with 63 Unity churches in Nigeria, supporting ministers and congregations to create healthy New Thought communities in Africa.

Since the death of her husband in 2005, Lisa spends much of her time parenting her two young daughters, Lia and Lauren. Committed to the process of spiritual parenting, Lisa is constantly on the lookout for new ways of sharing with the world’s greatest teachers and our next generation of leaders – our children.

Lisa brings to Unity Church of Portland a unique blend of management expertise, exceptional speaking skills, strong passion for spiritual principles, and a deep sense of the importance of integrity within our world. She is dedicated to the practice of Truth and building a community of higher consciousness. Lisa knows that, together, we can create the spiritual community which love is building now … and she is honored to be of service to this world and this growing community.

Books that have changed my life. (Rev. Billie)

BALANCING HEAVEN AND EARTH: Robert A. Johnson, with Jerry M. Ruhl

This book resonated strongly with my journey of the soul. It reflected on the authors first seventy-five years, was candid and profound in revealing his dreams, visions and insights. His wisdom permeated my soul and I have read and re-read many portions of this great book.

I especially liked the way he simplified life by saying, “The mystery is this: There is one right thing to do at every moment. We can either follow or resist.” It makes much sense to me that the universe guides us through our meditation and our intuition. God never leaves us without guidance. I also gained much by Dr. Johnson’s description of psychological inflation. I found him to be a great source of wisdom. Balancing Heaven and Earth: A Memoir of Visions, Dreams, and Realizations

POWER VS. FORCE: David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D.

This book revealed much about the hidden beliefs and concepts that determine behavior. I especially valued the scale Dr. Hawkins presented in which he laid out the progressive attitudes which move a person from despair and anger upward toward enlightenment. Dr. Hawkins showed how disease patterns in the mind produce disease in the body. He proved that the body knows truth and it can help us to be guided into that which is highest and best for us. He also showed the power of a loving thought, and helped me understand how a loving decision each minute was possible. Power vs. Force: The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior

WHAT IS ENLIGHTNEMENT: A magazine published four times a year. www.wie.org, Editor: Andrew Cohen

This magazine keeps me at the cutting edge of spirituality, and provides inspirational stories, as well as the latest on finding a framework for transformation. It asks the hard questions of the new sciences and the ancient traditions, as well of art and culture. It features conversations between Ken Wilbur and Andrew Cohen that are always provocative. It helps me understand Spiral Dynamics and matches my belief that we are spiraling upward, and that each of us makes the difference.

THE PHENOMENON OF MAN: Teilhard de Chardin.
His writings were published after his death, as he had been silenced and exiled by the Catholic Church. Nevertheless he rocked the world with his message that the very essence of everything is energy, and that energy is nothing less than LOVE, and that it is evolving through the consciousness of humans.
